Bright Osayi-Samuel made his competitive debut for Birmingham City on Friday night, delivering an impressive performance in their EFL Championship season opener, a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at St Andrew’s Stadium.
The Nigeria international started for the Blues and was one of their standout performers, contributing effectively at both ends of the pitch.
Osayi-Samuel played a key role in Birmingham’s opener, winning a crucial header in midfield that led to Jay Stansfield smashing the ball into the net in the 55th minute.

Birmingham looked set to claim all three points, but deep into stoppage time, Ipswich were awarded a penalty after the referee judged Lyndon Dykes to have handled the ball in the box. George Hirst stepped up and converted with his side’s only shot on target, rescuing a point for the visitors.
It was a frustrating result for both teams, who had hoped to kick off their campaigns with a victory.
Despite picking up a yellow card in the 19th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour, the 27-year-old kept his composure and maintained discipline for the rest of the match.
