Onuachu set for EPL debut against Brentford

New Southampton signing, Paul Onuachu, is set to make his Premier League debut against high-flying Brentford at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Onuachu joined the Saints on deadline day from Belgian giants Genk for €21m with the hope of helping them save their season. The Nathan Jones-led side are currently bottom of the Premier League after 20 league games scoring a meagre 17 goals in 20 games.

The Nigeria international will be hoping to replicate the impressive form he had in Belgium in the Premier League. Onuachu was the leading top scorer in the Belgian league before making his deadline day transfer to England. He had scored 17 goals in 22 games across all competitions.

The 29-year-old will be keen to start his career with the club brightly and manager Nathan Jones believes he will be a handful for defenders in the Premier League.

“Paul is a significant signing for us and completes what has been an extremely positive month in terms of recruitment.

“He’s a handful to play against, has got a tremendous record throughout his career and he’s also someone who brings great experience with him, so he’ll be a really positive addition to the squad.”

Onuachu had been close to joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt before opting for the Saints.
