Ola Aina remains a major doubt for Nottingham Forest ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at the City Ground, with manager Vítor Pereira still unsure about the defender’s condition.

‎The Nigeria international has missed Forest’s last two matches after suffering an injury during the Europa League semi-final first leg against Aston Villa on April 30.

‎His absence forced him out of the squad for games against Chelsea and Aston Villa as Forest struggled defensively without one of their most reliable players.

‎Aina has played an important role for Nottingham Forest this season with his defensive versatility and consistent performances across multiple competitions.

‎The Super Eagles defender has remained one of Forest’s regular starters and his absence was heavily felt during the club’s 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa, their biggest loss of the campaign.

Forest will now assess several injured players before making a final decision ahead of the Newcastle encounter. Pereira admitted the coaching staff still need more time before confirming player availability.

‎“I can’t answer because I don’t know. I don’t know about Morgan, I don’t know about Ola, I don’t know about Callum, Murillo or Dan, though I think Dan can maybe come back,” Nottingham Forest coach Vítor Pereira said.

‎The Forest boss also explained that the team would continue monitoring recovery levels before Sunday’s fixture.

‎“I have to understand the situation before the game. We have a day to recharge and to come back. Then we’ll play in front of our supporters at home to try and get points and improve our current situation in the Premier League.

‎“Let’s see what players we have available once we have recovered.”

‎While uncertainty surrounds Aina, fellow Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi could return to action against Newcastle United. The striker missed the Europa League clash with Aston Villa because he was not registered for the competition.
