Bayelsa Queens head coach Whyte Ogbonda has named a 25-player provisional squad ahead of next month’s WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers, Bold Sports reports.
The squad is headlined by Super Falcons defender and team captain Blessing Illivieda, alongside new arrivals Lucky Mary and prolific striker Janet Akekoromowei, who finished as the second top scorer in the NWFL last season.
Highly-rated talent Shakirat Moshood, a standout for Nigeria’s U-17 girls, also makes the cut and bolsters a formidable frontline that features Emem Essien, Lucky Mary, Delight Isaac, Ifeanyi Kindness, and Alaba Olabiyi.
The reigning Nigerian champions will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of Edo Queens, who lifted the 2024 WAFU Zone B title with a dominant 3-0 win over Ainonvi FC. The Benin Arsenal advanced to the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they topped their group before bowing out to TP Mazembe in the semifinals.
