The National Sports Commission (NSC) has joined Nigerians in mourning the passing of Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles and Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze, who died after a brief illness.
The sad news was earlier revealed by Chukwueze’s brother, David Chukwueze, who shared emotional Instagram stories in the early hours of Thursday, confirming Mrs Sarah’s passing.
In an official statement shared on its social media pages, the NSC wrote: “The National Sports Commission (NSC) is deeply saddened by the confirmed passing of Mrs. Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze.”
“The Commission has been informed that Mrs. Chukwueze passed away following a brief illness, a loss that has been publicly shared by members of the Chukwueze family.”

Offering condolences to the footballer and his loved ones, the NSC stated: “The NSC extends sincere condolences to Samuel Chukwueze, his siblings, relatives, and close friends as they grieve.”
The Commission also highlighted the importance of family support in the careers of Nigerian athletes: “Across the landscape of Nigerian sport, the role of family remains central to the character and resilience shown by many of our elite athletes.”
“Mrs. Chukwueze’s influence on the personal journey of her son and her support for his professional pursuit are acknowledged and respected by the sports community.”
Reaffirming its support for the winger, the NSC concluded: “The National Sports commission stands in solidarity with Samuel Chukwueze and offers support to him and his family at this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.”
