Enyimba climbed to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after matchday four, following a commanding 2-0 win over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa.

Substitute Chidera Michael broke the deadlock in the 76th minute, before captain Nweke Kalu sealed the victory nine minutes later to end any hopes of a comeback for the hosts.

The result lifted Enyimba to first place on goal difference, level on points with Rivers United, who edged Shooting Stars 1-0 in Port Harcourt. Alongside Ikorodu City, who secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 triumph over newcomers Barau FC in Lagos, Enyimba and Rivers remain the only unbeaten sides after four rounds of games.

Abia Warriors claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Katsina United, a morale-boosting result ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg clash against Mali’s Djoliba on Saturday, September 21.

Defending champions Remo Stars suffered their first defeat of the campaign, falling 2-0 to Plateau United in Jos. Elsewhere, newcomers Kun Khalifat celebrated their maiden NPFL win with a 3-1 victory over El Kanemi Warriors, while Nasarawa United edged Wikki Tourists 1-0.

The only draw of the round came in Uzoro, where newly promoted Warri Wolves were held to a goalless stalemate by visiting Kwara United. Matchday 4 had kicked off with Bendel Insurance edging Niger Tornadoes 1-0.
