Rivers United continued their impressive form in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Thursday, moving joint-top of the table after battling from a goal down to claim a 2-1 victory over Plateau United in Jos, Bold Sports reports.
The Pride of Rivers arrived at the game aiming to extend their unbeaten run, having gone seven matches without defeat. But their momentum took an early hit when Silas Nenrot fired Plateau United ahead in the 20th minute, giving the hosts a bright start against Finidi George’s in-form side.
Rivers United responded strongly after the restart, and seven minutes into the second half, Boluwaji Sholumade scored the equaliser that swung the momentum back in their favour.

Just when the contest seemed destined to end level, the visitors produced a late moment of brilliance to seal all three points, handing Plateau United their 10th league defeat of the campaign and extending their own remarkable form.
The result means that Rivers United are up to 30 points in 15 games, the same number of points with Nasarawa United who lead the table. Meanwhile, Finidi George’s side have a game in hand and victory will see them top the table.
The victory also means that no team have picked up more away points than Rivers United (11) in the 2025-26 NPFL season. They remain the only unbeaten team on the road in the campaign so far with two wins and five draws in seven games.
Up next for Rivers United is a home clash against Wikki Tourist on Sunday. On the other hand, Plateau United will have another tough task as they face off against Nasarawa United on the same day.
