…Nasarawa United seek end to two-game winless streak

Nasarawa United and Abia Warriors both have a chance to go top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table on Matchday 14 when they face El-Kanemi Warriors and Bendel Insurance, respectively.

With current leaders, Ikorodu City set to play away to Kano Pillars on Monday, second-placed Nasarawa United, level on points with the Lagos side, can move into first place with either a win or a draw against the Desert Warriors.

After last week’s disappointing 1–1 draw against Kun Khalifat, the Solid Miners will be eager to return to winning ways when they host El Kanemi at the Lafia City Stadium. They will also be hoping to end a two-match winless streak, having drawn 1–1 with Kwara United before the Kun Khalifat game.

Nasarawa began the season brightly, but a recent drop in form has affected their title push. Mangut Mbwas Ayuba’s men have managed just one win in their last five league matches, recording two losses, one win, and two draws.

If Nasarawa’s struggles continue and they falter at home against El Kanemi, Abia Warriors could climb to the top with a victory over struggling Bendel Insurance in Owerri.

Imama Amapakabo’s side, currently fourth on the table, will be aiming to end their two-game losing run against the Benin Arsenal. Abia Warriors have 22 points, and a win would take them to 25, one point above current leaders Ikorodu City.

Third-placed Rivers United will not be in league action this weekend as they return from their CAF Champions League trip to face defending champions Pyramids FC, where they suffered a 3–0 loss in their Group A opener.

Elsewhere, champions Remo Stars will be seeking back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season when they welcome Barau FC to the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

Warri Wolves, strong on the road but shaky at home, will be hoping to turn their Ozoro ground into a fortress when they host fellow newly promoted Kun Khalifat. Despite registering three away wins, the most in the league, Wolves have lost twice and drawn twice at home.

In other fixtures, Shooting Stars return to action as they visit Kwara United at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl in Ilorin. Enugu Rangers host Niger Tornadoes at the Cathedral, while Wikki Tourists take on fearless Bayelsa United.

On Monday, Ikorodu City travel to bottom-placed Kano Pillars, while Enyimba will be looking to bounce back from last week’s shocking home defeat to Wikki Tourists when they face Katsina United.
