Super Falcons forward Chioma Okafor has completed a move to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, The North Carolina Courage, the club announced on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old signed a three-year guaranteed contract through 2028, with a club option for 2029.
Okafor was part of the Super Falcons side that made history by claiming a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco earlier this year.
Her move comes after a standout collegiate career at the University of Connecticut, where she scored 30 goals and registered five assists in 57 appearances over four seasons.

Speaking on the move, Okafor expressed her excitement at taking the next step in her career: “I am excited to call North Carolina home and sign with the Courage. From the early conversations with the team, I fell in love with the developmental plan they laid out for me and the drive to build back this club’s championship roots. I can’t wait to get to work in 2026,” she said.
Courage Chief Soccer Officer Ceri Bowley praised the Nigerian forward’s profile and mentality: “We’re excited to welcome Chioma Okafor to the North Carolina Courage. Chioma is a dynamic, fearless attacker whose pace, power, and willingness to take on defenders bring dimensions we’ve been looking to add to our front line,” Bowley said.
She added that the club values Okafor’s approach to growth: “Beyond her on-field qualities, Chioma brings a competitive edge and a growth mindset that fits the culture we’re building. She works, she listens, and she’s hungry to develop. We’re delighted Chioma is joining the Courage, and we’re looking forward to integrating her into our squad.”

Born in Blantyre, Malawi, Okafor was eligible and chose to represent Nigeria through her father. She moved to the United States in 2019, attending Berkshire School in Massachusetts before joining UConn Huskies.
She leaves the Huskies as a three-time All-American, a 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, and a consistent First Team All-Big East selection in her final three seasons.
