Nigeria failed in their bid to qualify for the final of the mixed 4x400m relay at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics despite running a national record time in the semi-final.
The quartet Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Ifeanyi Ojeli and Patience Okon-George could only finish fourth in their heat with a time of 3:11.99 and ninth overall, missing a spot in final.
Ogazi who ran the first heat finished strongly, handing over to Onojuvwevwo in second position. The LSU student-athlete then took the lead for most of the leg before fading away in the closing stages.
Ojeli in the third leg also gave his best, taking Nigeria back to the second position before handing over to Okon-George on the anchor leg.
While Okon-George was third for most part of the leg, she was overtaken by Italy to take the third position with less than 50m to go.
Great Britain won the heat in 3:10.61 ahead of The Netherlands in second in 3:10.81, while Italy were third in 3:11.59.
