Nigeria Customs reclaim men’s Volleyball Premier League title after 7-year wait

Nigeria Customs Service have won the 2026 men’s Volleyball Premier League, ending their seven-year wait for another national championship.

Customs secured the title with one match remaining after defeating Sunshine Spikers 3-0. The victory was their 24th of the season and took them to 72 points, placing them beyond the reach of their closest challengers.

Their title was built on consistency across the league’s phases. Customs avoided the prolonged loss of form that affected their rivals and continued collecting maximum points as the competition approached its conclusion.

The straight-sets win over Sunshine Spikers was an appropriate title-clinching performance. Customs controlled the match, avoided the complications of a fourth or fifth set and completed the result they needed without relying on results elsewhere.

The championship returns them to the top of Nigerian men’s volleyball for the first time in seven years. It also rewards a campaign in which they established an advantage early enough to approach the final round without the pressure of a winner-takes-all encounter.

While the men’s title has been decided, the women’s competition remained open when Customs were confirmed as champions. The Customs women had 68 points, three more than Chief of Army Staff Spikers, leaving the final matches to determine the destination of the trophy.

For the men, however, the work is complete. Twenty-four victories and 72 points have restored Nigeria Customs to the summit of the domestic game.
