Victor Osimhen’s 80th minute goal was enough to help Napoli secure a 1-0 victory over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The Super Eagles striker who was starting for Napoli for the first time since September, found the back of the net with 10 minutes to go a great shot, holding off Roma defender Chris Smalling after a pass from Matteo Politano.
The goal was the 23-year-old’s third in as many games after just recently returning from injury which ruled him out.
Napoli claimed their 11th consecutive victory and are the only unbeaten side in the Serie A.
The victory saw them open a three-point gap over defending champions AC Milan in second place.
Speaking after the game, Osimhen said himself and his teammates have again showed that they are a difficult side to beat as they continue their unbeaten run.
“Roma gave us a tough time but we showed that Napoli is tough to beat,” Osimhen said.
Roma’s coach Jose Mourinho however rued his side’s loss after what he considered a good game.
“I feel a sense of injustice and embrace my players, because they did everything possible and I think they did enough to avoid defeat,” Mourinho said.
“We knew whoever got a goal would win, and it was Napoli.”
