Napoli open contract talks with Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia

Napoli have opened talks with Nigeria international Victor Osimhen and strike partner Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after their impressive start to the season.

Both players have been in superb form for Napoli and their combined performance have been instrumental to keeping the Partenopei on top of the Serie A table, 13 points ahead of second placed Inter Milan and on their way to winning their first Scudetto title in over 30 years.

Osimhen has been one of the most sought after strikers by top European clubs last summer and during the January transfer window with clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain as well as German champions Bayern Munich all fighting for his signature.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in a recent interview with German publication Bild had revealed that the club would do everything within its power to hold on to their top stars and according to reports in Italy, the club have opened contacts with the agents of both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia over a possible contract extension.

Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia have both contributed 24 goals to Napoli’s Serie A campaign this season. Osimhen has scored 16 goals in 17 league games while providing four assists while Kvaratskhelia has scored eight league goals while providing 11 assists in 17 games.

The 21-year-old Georgian who joined the Italians for €10m from Dinamo Batumi in the summer has hit the ground running and is already on the radar of top European clubs.

The Italians will be hoping to avoid the events of last summer which saw an exodus of some of their best talents such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz, David Ospina, Dries Martens, Lorenzo Insigne, Adam Ounas, Andrea Patega, Aekadiusz Milik amongst others.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli will be hoping to extend Osimhen’s deal by at least one year to take it to 2026 which will also see an increase in his current €4.5m net per season.
