Remo Stars will be hoping to exert revenge over Sporting Lagos when both sides clash in the final of the Naija Super 8 Tournament later today at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Both sides had earlier locked horns in the group phase of the pre-season tournament with Sporting emerging 2-1 winners against the CAF Champions League-bound Remo Stars. The loss, however, did not affect the Ikenne-based side as they ended up booking qualification ahead of Enyimba and Katsina United.
To reach the final, Sporting defeated Akwa United 2-1 in the semi-final coming from behind to send the more fancied Nigeria Professional Football League side packing while Remo saw off Lobi Stars in the second semi-final with a 2-1 scoreline.
Remo are favourites to lift the trophy for the maiden edition of the Naija Super 8 but Sporting will be banking on continuing their fairytale run.
Sporting Lagos Head coach, Paul Offor, believes it is a game Remo would not want to lose but his wards are ready for the fight. He also satiated that they aim to give their teeming fans good football.
“No team wants to lose a tactical battle back-to-back, especially against a team they would feel they have every right to beat. I know it’s going to be a very difficult game, but we are under no pressure. It’s Remo’s game,” Offor told the club’s website.
“We want to see what they have to bring to the table and we will play the best football that we can.
“As I said, it’s all about the fans. We want to give them an exciting game and a good experience from the Naija Super 8. I have been very happy so far as we have been able to do that. It looked difficult to beat Remo Stars, coming back from a goal down to win by two goals. That was a great game for the fans. We did the same thing again yesterday against Akwa United and it will be a game that they will always remember.”
