Moffi, Boniface on target in UEFA Competitions

Terem Moffi grabbed a brace including a spectacular overhead kick as he helped OGC Nice to a 2-2 draw at Basel in the UEFA Europa Conference League while in-form Nigerian striker Victor Boniface was also on target for Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League on Thursday.

Moffi scored his first goal of the game in the 38th minute smashing a loose ball into the net and cancelling out Basel’s Zeki Amdouni’s 26th minute opener. The Nigeria international gave the visitors the lead in the 45th minute connecting a spectacular overhead kick to Gaetan Laborde’s cross. The goal failed to decide the final outcome of the game as Amdouni score his second goal of the game in the 71st minute.

The brace takes Moffi’s tally to three goals in three appearances in the Conference League for Nice. The 24-year-old made way for Billal Brahimi in the 84th minute to a standing ovation from the visiting fans. He watched from the bench as his side held on for a draw.

Victor Boniface continued his impressive form for Union Saint-Gilloise as they held German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw at the BayArena on Thursday.

The Nigerian opened the scoring in the 51st minute but while they hoped to record a memorable away victory, Florian Wirtz broke the hearts of the visiting fans by scoring the equaliser in the 82nd minute.

While Boniface made way for Gustaf Nilsson in the 89th minute, his teammates put up an impressive defensive performance to keep the score at 1-1 after 90 minutes despite constant pressure from the hosts.

The goal takes Boniface’s Europa League tally to five goals from eight games. He’s only behind Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford (6) on the top scorers chart.

Both Boniface and Moffi will be hoping to help their respective teams qualify for the semi-finals of their various competitions next week.
