Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has expressed his desire to see an English team reach the UEFA Champions League final, which will be held in London on June 1.
As a special guest at the quarter-final draw in Nyon, Switzerland, Obi was asked about his preferred finalists. “With the final being in the UK, ideally I’d love to see not just one, but maybe even two English teams,” he said, mentioning Manchester City and Arsenal as possibilities.
However, he acknowledged all teams and added, “Real Madrid too, Carlo Ancelotti used to be my boss at Chelsea, fantastic guy. Good luck to all the teams, its going to be some fantastic games.“
The former Super Eagles captain who played a key role in Chelsea’s first Champions League win in the 2011/12 season, even went on to conduct the draw itself. The results created a scenario where only one English team can reach the final.
If Arsenal overcomes Bayern Munich and Manchester City defeats Real Madrid, the two English sides would face each other in the semi-finals, guaranteeing only one can progress to the London final.
