Victor Osimhen was named Man of the Match and got on the scoresheet as Galatasaray secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over Lille in the UEFA Champions League, recording their first win of this season’s competition, Bold Sports reports.

Both sides were desperate for a first victory after suffering consecutive defeats in their opening two matches. Lille had lost to Real Betis and Arsenal, while Galatasaray had fallen to Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona. However, the teams made a lively start, with both sides finding the net early in an entertaining encounter.

Yunus Akgün gave the visitors the lead in the second minute, but Lille responded five minutes later through Soriba Diaoune, who restored parity in the seventh minute. Diaoune struck again in the 38th minute to put the hosts ahead, only for Aleksey Batrakov to equalise for Galatasaray and ensure both teams went into the half-time break level at 2-2.

Seven minutes after the restart, Galatasaray regained the lead when Nabil Bentaleb turned the ball into his own net. Osimhen then sealed the victory with a well-taken strike in the 61st minute, capping a memorable performance on his competitive return to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The Nigeria international was subsequently named Man of the Match following his influential display. His strike was his first goal of the season in the Champions League and took his overall tally to seven goals and three assists in eight appearances across all competitions.

Osimhen had also found the net in Galatasaray’s previous Champions League outing against Barcelona, but his effort was ruled out.

Galatasaray will next face Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart at RAMS Park as they look to build on their victory and strengthen their position in the league-phase standings. The Turkish champions currently occupy 23rd place in the UEFA Champions League table.
