Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman reached a significant career milestone on Sunday, making his 100th Serie A appearance, but it ended on a disappointing note as Atalanta suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Sassuolo in Bergamo, Bold Sports reports.
Lookman, who made the starting lineup despite a touchline altercation with head coach Ivan Juric in Atalanta’s previous game against Marseille, was unable to inspire his side as Sassuolo ran riot to claim all three points.
The visitors took the lead in the 29th minute when Domenico Berardi converted from the penalty spot after Andrea Pinamonti was brought down inside the area. Despite Atalanta’s efforts to respond, Sassuolo held firm and went into halftime with their advantage intact.

The second half saw Fabio Grosso’s men tighten their grip on the contest. Berardi turned provider in the 52nd minute, setting up Pinamonti to double the visitors’ lead. The Italian forward then completed his brace in the 66th minute, putting the result beyond doubt with a clinical finish.
Lookman was substituted in the 78th minute for Kamaldeen Sulemana, but the change had little impact as Atalanta slumped to their second league defeat of the season.
The loss leaves Atalanta sitting 13th on the Serie A table with 13 points from 11 matches, while Sassuolo’s fifth win of the campaign lifts them to eighth on 16 points.

Despite the defeat, the match was a personal highlight for Lookman, who joined Atalanta in 2022 and has since made a consistent impact in Italy’s top flight. The 28-year-old made 31 league appearances in each of his first three Serie A seasons and has featured in seven league games this campaign.
In his 100 Serie A appearances so far, Lookman has notched 40 goals and 18 assists, underscoring his importance to Atalanta and highlighting the impressive progress he has made since joining the club.
