Kun Khalifat have reversed their decision to withdraw from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after holding talks with the League Management Board, with the club now set to resume participation with immediate effect.

The newly promoted side had earlier pulled out of the league following sanctions imposed for failing to honour their Matchday 24 fixture against El Kanemi Warriors. Kun Khalifat were docked three points and three goals, with the NPFL also warning of a ₦10 million fine should a similar breach occur.

The club described the sanctions as unfair and disproportionate, citing logistical and financial challenges as reasons why they could not show up for the fixture, and subsequently announced their withdrawal.

However, in an official statement released on Thursday afternoon, Kun Khalifat confirmed their return to the league after what they described as positive and constructive discussions with the NPFL board.

”Kun Khalifat FC is pleased to announce its return to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) following positive discussions with the League Management Board. The club had earlier withdrawn from the league citing unfair treatment and disproportionate sanctions,” the statement read.

We appreciate the League Management Board’s willingness to listen and address our concerns. We look forward to a more collaborative and productive relationship moving forward,” the statement continued.

Following their reinstatement, Kun Khalifat are scheduled to return to action immediately. The club will host Shooting Stars in their next NPFL fixture on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The club also called on supporters to rally behind the team, describing the upcoming fixture as crucial. Kun Khalifat acknowledged the patience and loyalty of their fans during what they termed a challenging period and promised an entertaining matchday experience as they look to improve their campaign.

The return brings a swift turnaround to a situation that had raised concerns over Kun Khalifat’s future in the league, although the NPFL management is yet to issue a separate statement on the development.
