Kelechi Iheanacho struck twice as Bursaspor came from behind to beat Batman Petrolspor 2-1 in the Turkish 1. Lig on Saturday, September 19. The Nigerian forward turned the game around after Batman took an early lead.
The brace takes Iheanacho to 11 goals and two assists in eight league appearances this season. He has scored in every league game since joining Bursaspor. His latest double also extended his scoring run to eight consecutive matches.
Batman Petrolspor opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Matheus Doria finished to put the hosts ahead before the break.
Bursaspor responded after the interval. Iheanacho stepped up from the penalty spot in the 60th minute. He kept his composure and sent the ball into the net.
The equaliser changed the momentum of the contest. Bursaspor then pushed for a second goal as the visitors looked to complete the comeback.
Iheanacho delivered again in the 85th minute. His second goal put Bursaspor ahead for the first time. The visitors held on during the closing stages to secure all three points.
The Nigerian’s scoring run has come soon after his move to Bursaspor. He joined the Turkish club as a free agent following his spell with Celtic, where he won the Scottish league and cup double.
The victory lifted Bursaspor to 19 points after eight matches. The club now sits at the top of the Turkish 1. Lig standings.
Batman Petrolspor remained on 16 points after suffering a second straight defeat. Bursaspor will now look to maintain its position when league action resumes after the international break.
Iheanacho’s latest performance also comes after his recall to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming international fixture against Russia. His continued goalscoring run has placed him among the key Nigerian attacking players to watch during the international window.
