Alex Iwobi made history on Saturday by becoming the Nigerian with the most Premier League appearances, featuring in his 299th league game during Fulham’s 1–0 loss to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

The milestone saw Iwobi surpass former Newcastle United legend Shola Ameobi’s long-standing record of 288 appearances, which had stood for 11 years.

Despite Fulham’s defeat, it was a memorable occasion for the 29-year-old midfielder, who achieved the feat against the club where he made his Premier League debut.

Iwobi’s 299 Premier League appearances have come across three clubs – 100 for Arsenal, 123 for Everton, and 76 for Fulham, including the game against Arsenal.

He now tops the all-time Premier League appearance chart for Nigerian players, followed by Ameobi (298), Nwankwo Kanu (273), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Mikel Obi (249).

The Super Eagles star is also on the verge of another milestone, as he is set to become the first Nigerian to reach 300 Premier League appearances when Fulham face Newcastle United next weekend – joining an elite group of just 161 players in league history to achieve the feat.
