In-form forward Mustapha Isah says he is following in the footsteps of Nigerian strikers who have made their mark in the Belgian Pro League.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable start to his debut campaign with RAAL La Louvière, scoring five goals in his first six league appearances.
His tally makes him the league’s leading goalscorer, level with fellow Nigerian forward Rafiu Durosinmi, who has also netted five times for Genk.
Isah was on target twice in his latest outing, scoring a brace as RAAL La Louvière secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Kortrijk.

Speaking after the match, the forward reflected on the impressive tradition of Nigerian strikers thriving in Belgian football, suggesting that the success of those before him has inspired his own journey.
“I really don’t know, it’s in the blood. I’m so happy. So happy to get what I did.”
“You see a lot of players come to this league, they shine, they play amazing. I’m following the footsteps of the Nigerian strikers and I’m so happy to be here.”
Isah’s impressive display against Kortrijk also earned him the Player of the Match award, an achievement he admitted he had been hoping to secure.
“I think this is amazing. I see a lot of players have it. And I had it in my mind that I want to get it actually, I’m so happy to get it,” he said.
Isah and Durosinmi’s early-season numbers continue a strong tradition of Nigerian forwards making an impact in Belgium.
Victor Osimhen enjoyed a productive spell at Sporting Charleroi during the 2018/19 season, scoring 20 goals and providing four assists in 36 appearances for the club at the age of 20.
Paul Onuachu also established himself as one of Genk’s most prolific modern-era strikers. The Nigerian scored 85 goals and provided eight assists in 134 appearances for the club, while winning the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot during the 2020/21 campaign.
Onuachu’s achievements in Belgium also included being named Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year and winning the prestigious Belgian Golden Shoe.
Following his departure from Genk, Tolu Arokodare stepped up to lead the club’s attack and continued the impressive Nigerian tradition.
The 25-year-old recorded 41 goals and eight assists for Genk, while also winning the Golden Boot in the 2024/25 season and the 2025 Ebony Shoe award.
With five goals already in his first six games, Isah now has an opportunity to add his name to that growing list of Nigerian forwards who have made their presence felt in Belgian football.
