Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has expressed his excitement about his Super Eagles call-up, stressing that qualifying for the World Cup is a possibility.

Kayode Bankole was one of two players from the NPFL to earn a call-up to the 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers. He was joined by Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel Mustapha who got his first call-up alongside Slavia Prague defender Igoh Ogbu, and Gent striker Tolu Arokodare.

Kayode Bankole’s inclusion in the Super Eagles squad is a testament to his rapid rise to prominence since joining Remo Stars as the 22-year-old goalkeeper has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the league.

After joining the Super Eagles camp in Kigali, Kayode Bankole shared his thoughts on receiving his first call-up: “It has been great, it’s a great feeling for me being in the midst of the big boys, the superstars, it’s amazing.”

“When I was coming, I flew in with some of the NPFL coaches like Coach Daniel who is my coach and Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu. I’m actually familiar with them so we got in together and it was a great feeling,” he added.

Kayode Bankole acknowledged the high expectations surrounding Nigeria’s World Cup qualification bid: “Getting the call-up at this time, I know it’s something amazing for me and I know it’s a big task ahead of us, because everybody expects Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup, which I know impossible is nothing, with God on our side, it will be possible.”

Kayode Bankole also reflected on his journey to the Super Eagles, having previously won best goalkeeper awards without receiving a call-up: “For like 2 seasons, I’ve been the one winning the best goalkeeper of the season and I didn’t get the call-up, but I believed I had to keep doing what I knew how to do. I knew one day it would come, and I’m very glad it has come.”
