World record holder Tobi Amusan sent a strong message to her rivals on Sunday night as she stormed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Rabat Diamond League, clocking an impressive 12.45 seconds.
The time was not only a Season’s Best (SB) for the 28-year-old but also a Meeting Record (MR), smashing the previous mark of 12.51s set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018. It marked Amusan’s first major victory of the 2025 season and a significant turnaround after a rough start to the year.
Amusan had opened her campaign with two successive fourth-place finishes at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets in May. Though she claimed a win earlier in March at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16, the Rabat triumph represented a more convincing return to form — especially following a disappointing end to her 2024 season, where she missed the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Olympics.
“It’s a good race, the beginning of the season was a little bit rough for me, but I kept my head down, trusted the process and had faith in God and my hard work. Coming out here today, I just wanted to execute a clean race, I don’t know what I did, but I just knew I was running, glory to God,” Amusan said after the race.

When asked what had changed between her earlier races and Rabat, she revealed: “Honestly, it’s been more hurdles practice because I have been doing a lot of sprinting, it was after the first two Diamond League meetings I knew I needed to go back to doing hurdle drills and two weeks in, I can tell the difference.”
