Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly close to joining Spanish La Liga side Sevilla on a free transfer, Boldsportsng.com reports.
The 27-year-old’s contract with Leicester City expired on June 30th, ending a seven-year spell with the Foxes and a nine-year stay in England since joining Manchester City in 2015.
Reports in Spain suggest Iheanacho has agreed personal terms with Sevilla and is expected to arrive in Spain for a medical on Tuesday or Wednesday, with an official announcement likely following.
The Super Eagles star played a crucial role in helping Leicester City return to the Premier League after their relegation in the 2022/23 season.
Despite interest from clubs in Turkey, England, France, and other European leagues, Iheanacho has opted for a new challenge in Spain. Iheanacho will link up with fellow Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke, who also joined Sevilla earlier this summer on a free transfer.
Limited playing time at Leicester due to Jamie Vardy’s presence means Iheanacho will be hoping to reignite his career in Spain. He’ll aim to help Sevilla challenge for their first La Liga title since the 1945/46 season.
