Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro says he aims to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy for the people of Nigeria.
The Portugues tactician made this known during the AFCON pre-match press conference on Saturday. Nigeria is billed to face hosts Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
“I want to win the AFCON for Nigerians,” Peseiro said. “I want to win that cup tomorrow so Ahmed Musa can lift it. He is a very very special player.”

“Tomorrow is going to be a great atmosphere, full stadium, both teams want to win. I am happy; until now my boys are doing a fantastic job, but we want to win this AFCON!”
Peseiro also stated that the fact that the Ivorians will be playing at home in front of a packed supporting stadium, makes them favourites for the trophy, “Congratulations to Cote d’Ivoire for reaching the final, they are the favourites, but we want to win the AFCON.”
The Portuguese also praised captain Ahmed Musa for his leadership qualities off the pitch stating that aside from being the team’s captain, he has also served in an assistant coach capacity to him.
“Ahmed Musa is special and important to the team. He is my assistant, he advises me, he gives me the necessary support. He is committed in his role and he can play. We shall wait and see tomorrow, but we want to win the AFCON for Musa to lift the trophy.”
