Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has shared her excitement after completing her high-profile move to Paris Saint-Germain Feminines, describing the transfer as a “new challenge” and a “perfect opportunity to grow” as she embarks on the next chapter of her career, Bold Sports reports.

The 25-year-old forward, who joins PSG on a free transfer after leaving Atletico Madrid, has signed a contract until June 2027 and will don the prestigious No. 10 shirt at the French club.

“I’m happy to be here, I’m looking forward to the season and I can’t wait to make you proud. I feel so excited,“ Ajibade said in her first official interview as a PSG player.

The Nigerian international emphasised that the move represents a major step in her career, citing PSG’s status as one of the most prestigious clubs in women’s football.

“It’s a new challenge coming into this kind of prestigious club full of amazing talents, amazing players, amazing people. I have the opportunity to grow as a player and as a person. I have a lot to learn and I believe it’s a place for me to evolve and become the best version of myself.”

Ajibade also revealed her long-standing admiration for the PSG brand, praising the club’s culture and its impact on the global football scene.

“PSG is a very good brand because it’s a club I’ve been admiring. I follow a lot from the men’s game to the women’s game as well. It’s a place where I’ve seen players evolve, do great things and of course they’ve been competing well.”

“Looking at the history, values and mission of the club, I think it’s a very good club and it’s a place for a lot of young players to grow and evolve as well.”

The Nigerian forward, who captained the Super Falcons to a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title last month, also spoke about her familiarity with the French league and her eagerness to make an impact.

“I follow the French league closely because I also have my teammates playing here. I know that it’s a physical league, to an extent tactical as well and it’s an interesting league. I’m looking forward to making my mark in the league.”

On the new UEFA Women’s Champions League format, where PSG will also be competing, Ajibade welcomed the changes, highlighting the increased competitiveness it brings.

“I think it’s great. The new format makes the game much better. You get to see every team and everybody has to be there to compete. It’s gonna increase the competitive level of the game and you get to see more teams.”

The new PSG star also expressed her delight at reuniting with Jennifer Echegini, her Super Falcons teammate who joined the French side in 2024.

“We know ourselves very well from the national team. I’m privileged to be the captain of the Super Falcons so I have to relate with everybody individually. I call her my sister because she’s a very unique person, an amazing footballer and also a very good person to relate with. I think that will play a major role for me to get integrated into the team. It will help me quickly get along with the team and the rest of the players as well.”

Ajibade also touched on the historic connection between PSG and Nigeria, acknowledging the influence of Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha, who starred for PSG’s men’s team from 1998 to 2002.

“PSG have a mark in Nigeria because of Jay Jay Okocha with his tremendous skills. Okocha is a legend who we do not take for granted so PSG-Nigeria is huge and I think most of Nigerian players dream to play for the club one day.”
