I endorsed Osimhen to Napoli move – Jorginho

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has hailed the performance and importance of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen to Napoli’s title chasing effort while also revealing that he recommended the Nigerian to the Italian side.

Osimhen has been in superb form for the Partenopei this season helping them record 20 wins in the Serie A out of a possible 23 games. He has scored 18 goals in 19 league appearances. Alongside in-form teammate, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, both players have combined for 31 goals across all competitions this season.

Napoli who are 15 points clear of second placed Inter Milan are on the verge of winning a first Serie A title in over 30 years.

Jorginho who was in the title chasing Napoli team of the 2017/18 campaign under Maurizio Sarri that finished second behind Juventus despite amassing 91 points says he’s been extremely impressed with the Nigerian. Both players clashed in a UEFA Champions League game while Osimhen was with French Ligue 1 side Lille and his memory of the Super Eagles superstar was that he was a handful for the Chelsea defenders.

Jorginho in an interview with DAZN revealed that when consulted about signing the Nigerian from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2020, he was quick to give his advice which was for them to go all out for the Super Eagles star.

“They (Napoli) are doing incredible things, honestly, I didn’t know the guy playing on the wing [ Kvaratskhelia],” admitted Jorginho in an interview with DAZN.

“I knew Osimhen. I had played against him in the Champions League and he had given a hard time to our defenders. Giuntoli called me before signing him and I told him to sign him straight away, he is very promising and is doing really well. They [Osimhen and Kvara] are flying and everything is going well. There is winning energy.”

Osimhen will be hoping to continue his impressive form in front of goal when Napoli visits Eintracht Frankfurt for a Champions League round of 16 first leg tie at the Deutsche Bank Park on Tuesday.
