Danish first division club Hobro IK have confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Nigerian attacker Onyebuchi Obasi from Norwegian side Vålerenga on a three-year contract.

Obasi becomes Hobro’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window as the club continue to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.

The Beyond Limits product joined Vålerenga in 2024 before spending the early part of 2026 on loan in Stockholm, where he continued his development. He now makes the switch to Denmark with high expectations surrounding his potential.

Hobro Sporting Director Lars Justesen revealed that Obasi had been identified through the club’s scouting network and impressed after an extensive assessment using the club’s data-driven recruitment model.

“Obasi has emerged through our network, after which we have scouted him thoroughly based on our data model. We have been looking for an offensive player who is explosive, strong and fast, and Obasi clearly stood out in these parameters,” Justesen said.

“He’s the type of player that we have been missing in our attack, which is why I am pleased that we have agreed with Vålerenga on the transfer of Obasi. He is a young player with great potential, which we hope to be able to redeem.”

Obasi expressed his excitement about beginning a new chapter in his career, describing Hobro as the ideal environment for his continued growth.

“I am happy to be moving to Hobro IK, a club that I have already had a really good impression of and where I have felt welcome from day one,” he said.

“I have had good talks with head coach Jens Gjesing and sporting director Lars Justesen and I am sure that this move is the right one for me and my development. I am looking forward to putting the yellow jersey on and giving back to the club on the pitch.”

The Nigerian attacker also outlined the qualities he hopes to bring to his new side.

“As a player, I am a fast and challenging type who always works hard for the team and I will do my part to ensure that we have a good season.”

Obasi will wear the number 29 shirt for Hobro IK as he prepares for his first season in Danish football.
