Bayer Leverkusen and Switzerland Midfielder, Granit Xhaka, recently expressed his confidence in Victor Boniface’s ability to shine for Nigeria, asserting that the Super Eagles forward will be important for the national team in the near future.
Victor Boniface has been one of the biggest revelations in German and European football since making his move to Bayer Leverkusen.
He was one of the pivotal figures in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga conquest, he scored in their recent super cup win, and he is also a lively presence in the dressing room.
This season, he has already recorded 8 goals in all competitions. He is also the highest goal scorer for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. This outlines his importance to the Black and Reds on the pitch, and off the pitch as well.
However, he has not been able to replicate his club performances for the Super Eagles. He is yet to score his first goal and he has only recorded one assist in 11 games for the national team.
Speaking with OmaSportsTV after their 5-0 win over Salzburg, Xhaka highlighted the challenges of playing for the national team.
“It is always difficult at the National team as you don’t have a lot of time to adapt and work on the tactical stuff. You are not playing everyday with the same coach or the same players,” he said.
“He is important for us, he will be important for sure for Nigeria in the future. Stay calm, because he is a great guy and a great footballer. He will give a lot for Nigeria to make the people happy for sure,” he added.
