Grange School emerged overall winners of the third edition of The Athletics School Games (TASG), while International School Lagos athlete Ehuwa Obanla produced the standout performance of the meet with a record-breaking high jump at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex.

The two-day, World Athletics-certified competition featured more than 20 schools across Lagos in the elementary and secondary categories.

Grange laid the foundation for their title win on the opening day, when their elementary school athletes outscored the field to finish top of the standings.

The contest tightened on the final day in the secondary category, with Grange, Riverbank and International School Lagos all in the mix. Grange built an early edge in the field events and followed it up with strong displays on the track to secure the trophy ahead of Riverbank and ISL.

Obanla’s performance was the highlight of the closing day. The ISL athlete cleared 1.95m in the high jump, setting a new tournament record and improving significantly on his previous personal best of 1.75m.

His jump drew applause from athletes, parents and spectators at the venue, capping what organisers described as the most competitive edition of the Games so far.

Founder of TASG, Dr. Seun Akinbohun, acknowledged the challenges involved in staging the competition, especially around funding and infrastructure, but said the event had again delivered memorable moments.

“We have had some incredible moments. Records were broken, from the high jump to the relays and throws. Thank God for the journey so far, and thank you to the parents, athletes, schools, coaches, sponsors, and partners. We look forward to welcoming more schools next year, and we are excited about the TASG Relays coming up in May.”
