Governor Fubara gifts Stanley Nwabali N20m, state award

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has honored Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali with the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State and a cash prize of N20 million for his outstanding performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

Fubara announced the cash award and accolade during a reception held in Port Harcourt for Stanley Nwabali and some members of the Super Eagles team. He revealed a cash prize of N20 million for Nwabali and allocated N30 million to other members of the Super Eagles present at the event.

The 27-year-old Port Harcourt native had a remarkable breakthrough in the tournament, having not previously been a prominent figure in the national team. Despite this, he was entrusted with the role of starting goalkeeper for Nigeria’s opening match against Equatorial Guinea.

Nwabali in action

His composed performance in goal earned him admiration from Nigerians as he kept four clean sheets and led Nigeria to the final, where they finished as runners-up, losing 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire.

Governor Fubara commended Nwabali’s heroics: “I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali, and our wonderful team.

“Your success is a testament to purposeful governance and administrative efficiency. I extend my gratitude and assure you that we will continue to support and encourage your endeavors.”
