Goodness Nwachukwu produced the performance of a lifetime to defend her Commonwealth Games title, smashing her own F42 world record to win gold in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Nwachukwu saved her best for last, launching the discus out to 39.66m with her final throw to improve her previous F42 world record by more than three metres and secure the Commonwealth title.
The Nigerian had also won gold in the women’s F42 discus at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she set the previous world record of 36.56m.
There was another encouraging performance for Team Nigeria as Destiny Agbo finished fifth with a personal best throw of 33.79m, continuing her impressive progress on the international stage.

Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye claimed the silver medal with a season’s best throw of 38.52m, while compatriot Bree Cronin took bronze with another season’s best of 36.00m.
Canada’s Addisyn Franceschini finished fourth with a personal best of 32.48m, Agbo placed fifth with 33.79m, England’s Ndidikama Okoh was sixth with 25.51m, and South Africa’s Yane van der Merwe finished seventh with a season’s best of 30.91m.
Kenya’s Sylvia Olero was eighth with a season’s best of 30.19m, England’s Bebe Jackson placed ninth with a personal best of 25.87m, while Regina Edward of Papua New Guinea finished 10th with a season’s best of 19.17m.
Nwachukwu’s victory takes Nigeria’s gold medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games to seven, with Team Nigeria now boasting 13 medals overall (Seven gold, four silver and two bronze).
The triumph further cements Nwachukwu’s status as one of the world’s leading para-athletes, having successfully defended her Commonwealth title while breaking the F42 world record once again.
