Flying Eagles shock hosts Argentina 2-0

In a thrilling match at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles triumphed over hosts Argentina with a 2-0 victory, securing their spot in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Despite Argentina dominating the majority of the game, it was Nigeria who struck first in the 61st minute, thanks to Ibrahim Beji Mohammad’s goal. The hosts relentlessly pressured Nigeria in search of an equalizer, but their hopes were dashed in the 91st minute when Rilwanu Haliru Sarki extended the Flying Eagles’ lead, leaving Argentina, considered one of the title favorites, stunned.

Nigeria’s next challenge in the quarter-finals will be against the winner of the match between Ecuador and South Korea, set to take place at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero on Thursday.

Although Argentina had an impressive 79% possession and completed 518 passes, compared to Nigeria’s 283 completed passes (34%), it was Nigeria who emerged victorious, securing the crucial result that propelled them to the quarter-finals.
