Finidi hails debutant Benjamin Tanimu in Eagles friendly win

Super Eagles interim coach, George Finidi, says he was impressed with the performance of former Bendel Insurance captain and current Ihefu Sports Club of Tanzania defender, Benjamin Tanimu, in Nigeria’s 2-1 friendly victory over Ghana in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Benjamin Taminu was preferred to the more established Kenneth Omeruo who plays for Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa to partner West Brom’s Semi Ajayi due to William Troost-Ekong’s injury which ruled him out of the friendlies against Ghana and Mali.

Rangers’ striker Cyriel Dessers and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman were on the score sheet for Nigeria while Fulham’s Alex Iwobi put up a Man of The Match performance in the middle of the pack.

Finidi, a former Nigeria international had glowing words for the Nigeria Premier Football League product who had an impressive performance in his national team debut.

“He did great. He’s a player that I wanted (at Enyimba) while he was still at Bendel Insurance, but it didn’t work out,” the Nigeria coach said about the Benjamin Taminu.

“With all our injuries, we had to look for a substitute player, and he did it great. Being his first time, it is not easy wearing those national colours, and he did great.”
