Nigeria’s Super Falcons will join hosts Morocco and defending champions South Africa in Level 1 of the seeding for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) draw, which takes place on Friday.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the draw procedure on Wednesday, with the event scheduled for 8 p.m. Nigerian time at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Salé, Morocco.
The 12 teams qualified for WAFCON 2024 will be divided into three groups of four, with the seedings based on FIFA rankings to ensure competitive balance in the tournament’s group stages.
Seeding levels
CAF placed the teams into four levels for the draw:
- Level 1: Morocco (host), Nigeria, South Africa
- Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, Tunisia
- Level 3: Mali, Senegal, Algeria
- Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, Botswana
As hosts, Morocco will automatically take position A1 in Group A, while South Africa will occupy C1 in Group C. Nigeria will complete Level 1 by slotting into position B1 in Group B.
The tournament will feature the continent’s best women’s football teams competing for the prestigious title. The top two teams from each group, alongside the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage.
With the draw set to shape the journey of all 12 teams, anticipation is building for exciting matchups as WAFCON 2024 gets closer.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off in Morocco in July 5 to July 26, 2025.
