Europa: Victor Boniface scores as Leverkusen thrash BK Häcken 4-0

In-form Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface returned to scoring ways for Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday in their 4-0 thrashing of BK Häcken in their 2023/24 Europa League opener at the BayArena in a Group H encounter.

Boniface failed to find the back of the net in Bayer’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich over the weekend but would not be curtailed this time in the Europa League, a competition he finished as joint top scorer last season alongside Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Aside from his goal, Boniface assisted Florian Wirtz to put the Germans ahead in the 10th minute before adding his name to the scoresheet in the 67th minute to take his side 3-0 up. Amine Adli had made it 2-0 in the 16th minute while substitute Jonas Hofmann completed the rout making it 4-0 in the 70th minute.

Boniface

Boniface made way for Adam Hlozek in the 73rd minute. Since joining Leverkusen in the summer, the Nigeria international has scored six goals while providing three assists in six games across all competitions.

He has been a revelation for Xabi Alonso’s side this season and has been a thorn in the flesh of defenders in the Bundesliga thanks to his strength, speed, and all-around athleticism.

The victory sees Leverkusen go on top of Group H. Qarabag who earned a 1-0 win over Molde sits second on the log, Molde is third while Hacken is currently bottom of the log.
