Cyriel Dessers scored a late equaliser as Glasgow Rangers earned a 1-1 draw against Olympiakos in their Europa League clash in Greece on Thursday.
The striker made up for missing two clear chances in the first half by firing in a low shot from the edge of the box in the 72nd minute.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement left captain James Tavernier on the bench and set up his team to defend deep and hit on the counter. The plan worked early on as Rangers frustrated the hosts and created chances of their own.
Dessers had the first big opportunity but shot straight at goalkeeper Kostas Tzolakis. He missed another chance soon after, failing to convert from close range after good work by Dujon Sterling and Vaclav Cerny.
Olympiakos finally broke through early in the second half. Ayoub El Kaabi found space on the edge of the box and blasted a shot off the underside of the bar to put the home side ahead.
Rangers responded well, and Dessers made no mistake when Olympiakos gifted him a chance. He picked up a loose ball, created space, and drilled his shot past Tzolakis to level the score.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but the game ended all square. The draw puts Rangers on seven points in Group A, with tough games against Nice, Tottenham, and Manchester United still to come.
