Cyriel Dessers ends eight-game goal drought against Napoli

Cyriel Dessers scored his maiden Italian Serie A goal for Cremonese in their 4-1 home loss to in-form Napoli at the Giovanni Zini Stadium on Sunday.

Napoli took the lead in the 26th minute through Matteo Politano who hammered home from the spot after forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was clumsily brought down in the box by Matteo Bianchetti.

The hosts pulled one back in the 47th minute through Dessers who beat the goalkeeper with a perfectly placed shot having received a through pass. The goal however proved to be a consolation for Cremonese as Napoli put three more goals past their hosts to return to the top of the table.

Giovanni Simeone gave Napoli the lead for the second time in the game in the 76th minute before Hirving Lozano made it 3-1 in the 93rd minute while Mathias Olivera finished off the encounter after scoring a header in the 95th minute.

Although Cremonese were unable to get their first win of the season, the goal for Dessers will serve as a morale booster for the Nigerian who has had a difficult start to life in Italy.

Dessers made way for Emanuel Aiwu in the 72nd minute while his teammate David Okereke came on for Luca Zanimacchia in the 46th minute. Their compatriot, Victor Osimhen was not listed for the game.

The loss sees Cremonese remain 19th on the league table and only one of two teams yet to record a win this season along with 20th placed Sampdoria.
