Coppa Italia: Ademola Lookman eyes first-ever club trophy

Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman is eager to win his first professional trophy at the club level when Atalanta faces Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday.

Despite being out of form, with no wins in their last six games, Juventus are favored on paper, having not lost to Atalanta in their previous six encounters.

In contrast, Atalanta have been in excellent form, winning six of their last seven games. They will be brimming with confidence after their 2-1 win over AS Roma last weekend.

Ademola Lookman in action for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON

Ademola Lookman has won national-level trophies with England U-20 and finished second with Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, but his club football trophy cabinet remains empty.

The Nigerian international will be a key player for Atalanta in the final, currently the club’s third top scorer in Serie A with nine goals from 29 appearances, behind top scorer Teun Koopmeiners by three goals. Lookman also leads the club’s assist chart with six assists this season, alongside Charles De Ketelaere and Mario Pasalic.

Atalanta are also in the final of the UEFA Europa League where they’ll face in-form Bayer Leverkusen who are unbeaten this season in all competitions. They are also fifth on the log in the Serie A and almost assured of a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
