Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo, was on target as Al Hilal thrashed Al Jazira 6-1 on Sunday to book a spot in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup against European champions Chelsea on Wednesday.
Host Al Jazira took the lead in the 14th minute through Abdoulay Diaby but Ighalo found the back of the net, scoring the equaliser in the 36th minute. Matheus Pereira gave the Saudi Arabian club the lead in the 40th minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Hilal were ruthless in the second half scoring four unreplied goals.
Mohammed Kanno, Salem Al Dawsari, Moussa Marega and André Carrillo were on the score sheet in the 57th, 77th, 88th and 92nd minutes.
They (Al Hilal) will face English Premier League side Chelsea in the semi-final of the competition while Africa’s most successful club Al Ahly will face Brazilian side Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras in the other semi-final on Tuesday for a place in the final.
It was Ighalo’s second game for the club after completing a €2.9m move to the club from Al Shabab on January 29 on a one-and-a-half-year deal in the recently closed winter transfer window.
Al Hilal’s 6-1 win is the biggest in Club World Cup history.
