D’Tigers power forward Chimezie Metu is on the verge of joining French side AS Monaco Basket ahead of the 2025/26 season, Bold Sports reports.

According to Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews, the Nigeria international has agreed personal terms with Monaco, with the move now subject to a medical, which is expected to take place next week.

Metu, who last featured for Spanish giants Barcelona in the Liga ACB and EuroLeague, saw his campaign cut short by an Achilles tendon rupture.

The 27-year-old was previously close to signing for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe and even passed his medical, but the transfer collapsed after both parties disagreed on the contract length.

If the Monaco deal goes through, it will mark Metu’s second season in Europe after a six-year NBA stint with the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Detroit Pistons.

During his time at Barcelona, Metu averaged 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game in the EuroLeague, and 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game in domestic competition. In total, he made 44 appearances for the Catalan side across all competitions.
