Barcelona has completed the signing of power forward Chimezie Metu, a six-year NBA veteran after he failed to attract interest from NBA teams ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The 27-year-old free agent, opted for a lucrative move to Europe after not receiving offers from NBA teams. He last played for the Detroit Pistons in the NBA, signing a 10-day contract that was later extended until the end of the 2023/24 season on March 30.
Metu was a second-round 49th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft and has played for the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Pistons during his six-year NBA career, averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
This marks Metu’s first venture into European basketball, where he will need to adapt to the style and tempo of the game quickly to become a key player for Barcelona in both the league and EuroLeague.
With his rim protection and rebounding skills, Metu has the potential to be a huge asset for the team after adjusting to the European style of play.
