Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Super Falcons and their coach Justin Madugu following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.

Nigeria’s women’s national team sealed their dominance on the continent with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, securing the title in spectacular fashion.

The win marked a historic milestone as the Super Falcons claimed their 10th WAFCON crown — way more than any other women’s team in Africa — further cementing their legacy as the continent’s most successful side.

“I want to congratulate the coach, it was a great tournament, I’m so proud of you and your technical staff. You deserve this trophy. I’m so happy for you and your family,” Chelle said.

The Super Eagles boss also hailed the entire Super Falcons team for overcoming the odds and excelling in front of a passionate home crowd in Morocco: “I want to congratulate the best team in Africa, the Super Falcons. You deserve this trophy. It was not easy because you faced Morocco in Morocco and you did it.”

Expressing optimism for what lies ahead, Chelle added: “I think the future of the Super Falcons will be great.”

Meanwhile, Chelle is gearing up for his own continental challenge, as he prepares to lead the Super Eagles B team at the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2.

Nigeria’s home-based national team will kick off their CHAN campaign with group games against Senegal and Sudan at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar, before wrapping up the group stage with a tie against Congo at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
