However, he found it difficult to make a similar impact in the return fixture, which Barcelona won 3-0, and was an unused substitute in their most recent La Liga meeting, a 2-1 win for Hansi Flick’s team.
Overall, the two sides have already met four times this season, with Barcelona claiming three victories, underlining the scale of the challenge facing Atletico. Simeone’s men will be eager to turn the tide as they push for a place in the semifinals of Europe’s elite competition.
