Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu fell short in her bid for a bronze medal at the Olympics, losing 3-0 to two-time World Champion Ozaki Nonoka in the women’s 68kg freestyle wrestling bronze medal match on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old Japanese was too quick and technical for the 13-time African champion during the entire six minutes of the fight.
Ozaki scored a takedown in the first period to gain two points and added an additional point to take the fight away from Oborududu after the Nigerian failed to score a point during her 30-second penalty period.
It is a disappointing performance for Oborududu who won a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo last time around.
Nigeria’s hopes for a medal at the Olympics in wrestling now rest on Odunayo Adekuoroye in the women’s 57kg freestyle event.
