Bendel Insurance continued their impressive start to the 2023 Nigeria Professional Football League season with a 3-0 thrashing of Remo Stars in Group A of the abridged league format on Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin.
It was a battle of the unbeaten in Group A as both sides had earned maximum points in their first three games of the season. Insurance, however, showed their superiority in the fifth minute with in-form striker Imade Osehenkhoe opening the scoring for the Benin Arsenal.
Ismael Seriki made it 2-0 in the 25th minute as the hosts went into the half time break with a two goal cushion. Substitute Austin Ogunye scored the third goal in the 78th minute to put the game beyond the visitors. The loss is the first for Remo in the season while the win see Insurance go three point ahead of their rivals on the log.
The goal for Imade is his fourth of the season. He’s found the back of the net in every game he’s featured in this campaign while Seriki’s goal takes his tally to three this season.
At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, defending champions, Rivers United pipped hosts Dakkada FC 2-1 to go top of Group B of the abridged league.
Isaac George put Dakkada in front in the 16th minute while Rivers United striker, Nyima Nwagua scored the equaliser in the 35th minute. Naibe Akpesiri scored what ended up being the winner in the 45th minute. Paul Acquah was impressive for the visitors providing both assists for the goals.
