Atlético Madrid have confirmed an agreement with Atalanta for the signing of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, with the deal now awaiting a medical examination and the completion of contract formalities, Bold Sports reports.
In a statement released on Sunday evening, the Spanish club officially announced that the 28-year-old is already in Madrid and that the transfer is close to being finalised.
“Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have agreed to the transfer of 28-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who is already in Madrid. The agreement is pending a medical examination and the signing of his contract,” the statement read.
The move brings to an end days of intense speculation surrounding Lookman’s future, after he initially appeared set for a switch to Turkey. Fenerbahçe had earlier reached a verbal agreement with Atalanta and also agreed personal terms with the Nigerian on a four-year contract.
However, the Turkish club’s negotiations with Atalanta stalled over payment structure, with the Italian side reportedly demanding bank guarantees and an upfront payment of 50% of the total fee, while Fenerbahçe preferred to pay €10 million immediately. That delay opened the door for Atlético to push forward with their interest.
Reports later indicated that Atlético’s offer was preferred by Atalanta, with transfer expert Matteo Moretto also confirming that Lookman became open to the idea of joining Diego Simeone’s side, prompting fresh talks on personal terms that continued into Sunday.

Those discussions have now produced an agreement, with the deal set at a €35 million fixed fee plus €5 million in add-ons, while Lookman has also agreed a long-term contract after making his final decision in the early hours of Sunday.
Lookman is expected to begin training immediately, with reports suggesting he could be available for Atlético’s Copa del Rey clash against Real Betis on Thursday, where he may make his debut. The winger was also seen speaking to El Chiringuito TV upon his arrival, saying: “I’m very happy to be here. Very very happy. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
