The Nigerian contingent will be well represented in the men’s 100m final at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with Favour Ashe, Godson Brume, and Kanyinsola Ajayi all securing their spots.
Brume booked his place by finishing second in his semifinal heat with a time of 10.23 seconds (-0.3 wind).
Ashe secured one of the next best three times to advance, clocking 10.13 seconds in his heat.
Meanwhile, in his first season competing in the NCAA, Ajayi, an Auburn freshman, claimed a major victory by winning the first semifinal heat in 10.09 seconds (+0.3 wind), which marked his second-fastest time ever.
In Ajayi’s heat, Ashe finished third with a time of 10.13 seconds, narrowly missing an automatic qualification spot as Zaccheus Beard edged him out for second place with 10.12 seconds.
The men’s 100m final, featuring the trio of Nigerian sprinters, is scheduled for Friday during the NCAA Championships at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Brume won the silver medal in last year’s final, while Ashe finished eighth.
