Arsenal’s Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper joins Austrian side

Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper, Authur Okonkwo, has joined Austrian Bundesliga side, SK Sturm Graz on loan for the rest of the 2022/23 season.

Premier League leaders Arsenal confirmed the news on Monday. Okonkwo had been on loan at Crewe Alexandra during the first half of the season but was recalled back to the club in order to complete the deal to Austria.

The 21-year-old conceded 27 goals in 23 matches for the League Two side while keeping nine clean sheets.

Arsenal wrote, “The 21-year-old goalkeeper has already made 26 appearances in all competitions for Crewe Alexandra this season and will now spend the second half of the campaign playing in the Austrian Bundesliga.

“Arthur had been a key figure in our academy, before being promoted to the first team at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season. We wish Arthur all the best for his loan spell at SK Sturm Graz and look forward to seeing his continued development.”

SK Sturm Graz are currently second in the Austrian league, six points behind leaders RB Salzburg after 16 games.
